We currently reside in both Hancock and Harrison counties, which are located on the southern tip of Mississippi.
Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi coastline in 2005, leaving thousands of families and businesses without homes or buildings. Casinos were destroyed, and 90% of buildings in Biloxi-Gulport were wiped by the storm surge. All counties in Mississippi were declared disaster areas, and more than half a million people applied for assistance from FEMA. |
It is now 2008, and eight casinos have been opened since the disaster, with several more in construction. Casino revenues have peaked, passing the billion dollar mark. Many more casinos are being built throughout the Mississippi coast, and many businesses have returned back to normal. The Biloxi Bay Bridge has opened two lanes of the six lanes that will be completed, as well as other bridges have opened to resume normal traffic. The employment growth is now ranked first in the nation and is projected to be third in 2011. There is a housing boom occuring right now, and Southern Mississippi is finally getting back on its feet. Many have returned to the area, and many individuals plan on returning to the state.
